A demo account is an ideal place to start when you are considering any new broker. This allows you the opportunity to get to know more about that broker.
While DEGIRO is a popular broker in Europe, they don’t offer a demo account. The broker does provide a very low-cost trading environment with a great range of assets to invest in, and a very accessible trading platform that is easy to use.

Is a DEGIRO Demo Account available?

Currently, DEGIRO does not offer demo accounts at all. As there is no DEGIRO demo account could hinder newer traders who want to practice before risking money in the markets.

It’s unlikely the absence of a demo account will be a complete letdown for seasoned traders. However, they might appreciate being able to test a new platform in a demo environment by exploring the features without worrying about what happens when they click a button.

If you’re eager to try this broker, you’ll be pleased to know the account opening process is really quick. With just €0.01 to activate the account, you will have access to a low-fee trading environment.

Demo Account alternatives to DEGIRO

If you want to practice trading before trading with real funds on DEGIRO, you can look for another broker to practice on a demo account.

eToro offers an unlimited demo trading account to all users, and it can be a good alternative to DEGIRO thanks to the fact that eToro offers low-commission stocks as well.

However, eToro offers fewer tradable stocks and a small number of ETFs and while DEGIRO does not allow you to invest in the stock market with fractional shares, eToro does. In fact, with eToro you will be able to invest in stocks starting at $10 regardless of their value.

Warning

CFDs are complex instruments and come with a high risk of losing money rapidly due to leverage. Between 74-89% of retail investor accounts lose money when trading CFDs. You should consider whether you can afford to take the high risk of losing your money.

DEGIRO does not offer a demo account but allows traders to open a real account for a 0.01 EUR minimum deposit.

If you wish to open a real trading account with DEGIRO just to explore the trading platform, you should follow these steps that take approximately ten minutes in total:

  1. Upload a proof of identity and a proof of address
  2. Complete the W8BEN form to confirm you’re not residing in the USA.
  3. Wait 3-4 business days for DEGIRO to process the request
  4. Choose your deposit method (Bank transfers and credit card deposits are allowed)
  5. Deposit at least $0.01 to activate your account.

Accounts available with DEGIRO

DEGIRO used to offer different trading accounts to choose between. These were the Basic and the Custody account.

The Basic account lets you also trade with margin, whereas the Custody account allows you to buy shares in cash without using margin. To date, DEGIRO does not allow new customers to open a custody account, while old customers can keep their own if they have already opened it.

How to start trading with DEGIRO

Although DEGIRO doesn’t have a demo account, this doesn’t mean traders can’t train their skills with lower costs.

DEGIRO is in fact one of the most popular stockbrokers in the European Union due to its minimum deposit of $0.01 and its wide selection of assets to invest in.

So with this broker, it is possible to start investing with relatively low amounts of money that, thanks to the low commissions starting from €1 (and sometimes totally absent), can be fully exploited.
